New Making

What makes an Oliver Nicholson violin so special? At its simplest they are so special because they look stunning and sound beautiful!
Every instrument comes with comprehensive detail of its material and construction, so that the player knows not only that their instrument sounds and feels wonderful, but they are connected to its very origins and creation.
This detailed history begins with the source of the original timber, its age and nature. The processes of selection, carving, planing, shaping, bending, varnishing and setting-up is also documented in detail. Sometimes it is possible for the ribs and back to be carefully pared from the same piece of timber to maximise the coherence of the grains and the beauty of the instrument. Your instrument has its own life, its own story to tell you and a history for you to share with others.
